An afternoon at home
The radio beside the sewing machine.
Some afternoons stay in memory for the tune nearby, rather than the pace of the work.
A sound alongside the work
The sewing machine turns, a fold of fabric is straightened, and a radio nearby gives the room another rhythm. You do not have to stop working to hear a song. Sometimes the tune keeps you company; sometimes your hands slow down before the next phrase. This is no account of one particular home. It is a way of listening more closely to an ordinary afternoon.
A small break for chai
The buttons, thread and scissors stay where they are. When a cup of chai arrives, a little space opens on the table. With an old song on the radio, finishing every task need not be the price of enjoying that moment. Sitting for five minutes is an act of its own: noticing that you are here in your day.
A listening ritual for today
Choose one small household task. Before you begin, play “Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha”, then pause once to listen only to the melody. There is no need to summon a memory. If one comes, let it sit with you for a while.
