A small joy in waiting
The last bell before the holidays.
Sometimes a holiday began with a sound rather than a date on a calendar.
One last look at the clock
In the final minutes of a school day, attention could drift from the lesson to the door and the clock. Before the notebook closed, the route home was already taking shape in our minds. The bell was no grand announcement, yet in its single sound we could hear the open space of the days ahead.
The journey was part of the break
There was a rush to get home, but the walk felt lighter. The bag was the same; perhaps its weight had not changed. What changed was the thought that a few mornings could now begin on our own terms. A song can sometimes feel like that waiting: nothing has happened yet, but a good time seems close.
A small listening invitation
Choose a song that reminds you of an old anticipation. As you listen, recall one small detail from that time: the route, the weather or the first cup of chai after getting home. It is fine if the memory stays blurry. Sometimes only that light feeling of waiting remains.
