One date, one melody
The folded calendar corner.
A wall calendar made room for small moments as well as big plans.
A visible place for the day
The paper calendar stayed on the wall each morning, but the date changed. A day might be circled in pencil; the corner of a page might be folded. Only the person who made the mark knew what it meant. This was time made visible at home, without the sound of a notification.
Dates for small things, too
Not every mark meant a holiday or a big celebration. Meeting for chai, or wanting to hear a song again, could also make a day worth remembering. Perhaps the appeal of an old calendar lies in that simplicity: a marked day does not become important by itself, but it keeps an everyday moment from disappearing quite so quickly.
A listening ritual for today
Set aside a small time for yourself on today's calendar and listen to “Kuch To Hua Hai” all the way through. You do not need to prove a memory belongs to this song. Simply notice which slight, ordinary thing makes you smile in the middle of the day. If you like, leave a small mark beside the date.
