A childhood plan

The coin box and a small hope.

Some wishes need only a little space and a little time to grow.

The small sound of a coin

A coin makes a very small sound when it drops into a clay or tin savings box. Yet it makes one small action feel complete. There was no easy way to check the contents every day; you had to trust that saving a little at a time was slowly adding up. That unhurried pace held a habit of taking a modest wish seriously.

Giving a wish a name

The goal might have been a book, a game or a trip. It might simply have been the chance to choose something with money set aside by yourself. We cannot assume that every savings box held the same story. Still, naming a small wish and taking one small step towards it again and again may feel familiar to many of us. A song can help us remember that hope without making it grand or extraordinary.

A listening ritual for today

Before playing “Chhoti Si Aasha”, write down one small wish of your own. Under it, write one thing you can do today without spending money: read two pages of a favourite book, look at an old photograph or protect half an hour of free time. When the song ends, keep the note. A hope does not need to come true at once; giving it a place can be a beginning.
