Made for someone

A mixtape for a friend.

A playlist becomes personal through the memories you choose to put beside each song.

Begin with one person

It is hard to make the perfect playlist for everyone. Making one for a single person can feel more meaningful. Think of a friend from college, a sibling, or someone you have not spoken to for a while. Write down their name. Then ask yourself which moment you would like to revisit with them. Choose songs around that memory, rather than around popularity.

A small journey of five songs

Let the first song be a hello: familiar and easy. The second might bring back a place. The third could recall something you laughed about. The fourth could be a song you always meant to share. The fifth does not have to end the journey; it can simply give you both a place to pause. These are not rules. If you share one favourite song, that single song can be the entire mixtape.

A short note with each song

You do not need a long message. Try: do you remember this song in the canteen? Or: how many times did you play it on that bus trip? Write your own words instead of copying someone else’s lyrics. Two honest sentences from you will make the collection more personal than a ready-made playlist.

An invitation without pressure

You can say: listen whenever you have time. Everyone’s day moves at a different pace. Sending a playlist does not ask for an instant reply or a reckoning with an old friendship. Share the memory, and leave the other person free to enter it in their own time.

Keep a copy for yourself

You can save favourites on Chai Ki Gumti and back them up. The site does not yet offer a way to share a custom mixtape, so for now you can share each song or a complete Time Machine era. Keep your handwritten notes separately. Reading them again months later may feel like finding a new playlist.
